-
No. The charter boat has a license and that is already included in your fee.
-
The charter boat will have the rods and reels, cold storage for the fish, fishing license the mate will clean your fish at the end of the trip. You should bring a cooler with snacks and/or lunch and drinks. Also don’t forget personal items such as sun block, sunglasses, hat, camera, plenty of water and climate appropriate clothing. Hand wipes and/or a towel is also suggested to bring. With private charters you can request that we supply drinks & snacks for an additional fee.
-
Trip lengths range from 4,5,6,8,10,12 hours and overnight, depending on the season as well as what type of fish you are trying to catch.
-
Them are over 30 kinds of edible reef fish in the Gulf. Red snapper, vermillion snapper (rningo), black and white snapper and lane snapper, trigger, grouper and amberjack to name a few. Add to that trolling fish such as king mackerel, bonita, cobia, wahoo and mahi mak You can specialty fish for shark, swordfish, tuna and more. If you have something you want to fish for let us know and we will let you know what is in season, how long of a trip you need to get them and when is the ideal time of year for that species.
-
Everyone is different. If you tend to get motion sickness riding in a car or at amusement parks etc, there is a good possibility you might on a charter boat. The best advice is to be prepared. Dramamine, Bonine, Motion Eaze or a patch can be found at your favorite pharmacy. If using any of these medications they need to be in your system before you get on board the vessel. Non-medical options include Sprite or Ginger Ale and crackers.
-
You can however the captain and mate will review/approve your equipment because there is equipment that can cause damage to the boat as well as it may not suitable for certain types of fish.
-
We do fish in the rain. Usually it will not affect the fishing! It is always best to come prepared with rain gear should rain be forecast for the day of your trip. Please keep in mind that just because 0 is raining on land, it does not mean it will be raining where you will be fishing.
-
Yes. Especially when wanting a group (please change this word to shared) charter. We will only send out a boat if our minimum is met. If you find yourself on the dock spur of the moment and want to head out for some fishing with short notice we are usually able to round you up a captain and crew in short order however, the more advance notice you provide, the more we are able to accommodate particular requests. Also consider the time of year you are here as during our peak summer season this can be rather difficult.
-
It is customary to tip the first mate at the end of your charter. The mate will work hard the entire trip to make sure that your hooks stay baited, fish are removed quickly and that your catch is cleaned and bagged and ready for you to take home at the end of your charter. A standard gratuity is anywhere from 15-20% of your total charter dependent upon the level of service you received.
-
Where the captain goes will be determined by factors including weather/marine conditions, their proven spots and length of the trip. Generally speaking a 4 is not enough time to get deep for bottom fishing so they will usually troll. A 6 hour may go 15-20 miles off shore and an 8 20+.
-
4 hours typically trolls which requires taking turns. 6 hours plus will probably be a combo. Troll lines on the way out and bottom fishing once you get to the wrecks/reefs. Captains know what has been biting lately and will pick what is most beneficial to the entire group. If it is a private charier the captain will ask what you want to do but will tell you what is possible within your time constraints.
-
The boat will already have various types of cut bait on board along with lures used in specific fishing. Part of the fishing experience is fishing for live bait when you leave the Pass. If you would like to buy scoops of five bait and forego that part, the Captain will stop at the bait boat ONLY if the boat is them and it isn’t always there but mossy is in the season.
-
About 15+ usually ok. The parent most come check-in with them in the morning and sign the waiver because they are under 18. Be sure to read the parents the riot act re:behavior. Sometimes I make the parents bring them down ahead of time to meet/assess their level of maturity. It’s generally a judgement call.
-
On a group up, if they are breathing they count as 1 person. On a private charter 6 passengers is 6 passengers no maser what age. Specifically if the boat only holds 6. If it is a 6+ boat and they have a large group plus a baby/toddler you can call the boat owner and ask if they will waive the additional per person cost for 1 child. ALWAYS, the max for any boat includes babies as far as the coast guard is concerned.
-
If they are around 4+ (and normal size) there are child life jackets on board in case of an emergency, however, if it were me I would purchase a coast guard approved life jacket and have it on my young child at all times. Babies/very bny children, you will definitely need to bring one the appropriate size.
-
If it is a service dog and they show you their card we cannot refuse them. Be sure to make captain aware. If not a service dog ask for type/size and tell them it is up to the captain/owner of the boat. You will let them know.

State boats cannot go more than 9 miles out for Reef fish. They also have different seasons with respect to what reef fish they can keep. They can troll/sport fish beyond that point.
Federal boats most go more than 9 miles out to reef fish per their Federal Reef Permit.
